La Halle
This house is more than 400 years old but, in spite of numerous alterations, it keeps on offering characteristics of a style which has nearly disappeared: you can observe the brick gables and the plan of the front which is made of a corbelled wooden structure.
This house recalls the Old Soignies, famous for his wooden and thatched cottages. The use of half-timbering dates from the Middle Ages.
The name of the house comes from the bed sheets industry that appeared in the 14th century. Sheets of different colors were produced in Soignies and from the 15th century on, also “half sheets”. Declining in the 15th century, the industry did not survive after the religions wars.
